The real answer is that embeds will sometimes be converted into a special view with rich interaction (for example, a YouTube link will be embedded as a playable video within your document). If the link can't be embedded, it will mimic a bookmark. However, bookmarks will always just be a link with a title, body text, and a thumbnail.
